Our call for help...
|
When Raven Tongue launched in 2025, the response was truly miraculous. Funds needed for this 10 year dream to fledge the nest were raised on Kickstarter within just 4 days! Now, 3 seasons later, positive feedback continues to pour in - both from writers who've been profoundly affected by this opportunity, as well as from readers remarking on our high quality beautiful issues full of potent and varied articles, uncensored artistry, and print-only nature.
Our design, publishing structure, and release schedule were all geared to meet well researched 'under utilized' federal and provincial grant qualifications. This funding was to help Raven Tongue begin hiring much needed staff, increase print-run numbers allowing access to international distribution houses, essential cost reductions, and increase shipping efficiency. The access portals to these grants went offline for months during the largest arts funding restructure in Canadian history. During Spring 2026, as access came back online, major qualifying terms have unexpectedly been changed beyond our reach. Adding to this challenge, our incredible BC based print house has needed to raise their fees, while various unforeseen expenses also increased. Everything from packaging, to shipping rates, to tech and software. |
What we have...
We have the majority of our content for a second year of publication already in hand, ready to go. Systems of production are in place, and workload distribution has been refined. 40+ contributors are passionate to continue. More shops are carrying us, and readership is still expanding.
What we need to survive...
Angel Investors, Sponsors, Grants, Donations.
While proof of concept has been demonstrated and desire for editions runs high, access to financial capital determines our fate.
By July 31st 2026, we need to:
While proof of concept has been demonstrated and desire for editions runs high, access to financial capital determines our fate.
By July 31st 2026, we need to:
- Secure funding for operations
- Achieve a minimum number of annual subscribers & renewals
How you can help!
Every dollar makes an impact. During our Kickstarter, certain fees were incalculable in advance, coupled with increased production costs and unforeseen additional expenses, every donation helps us fulfill our promise to subscribers.
A note of intention to subscribe, or to renew a current subscription, helps us keep a finger on the pulse of our readership and gauge interest as we move forward.
Details of numbers crunched and stats collected. A review of business so far, aim of trajectory, and a bit more about the sole proprietor and the community of women Raven Tongue supports. As a collective, we meet various equity deserving and priority group classifications. Serious inquiries only.
If we don't find funding in time...
This venture is too important to too many people for us to walk away easily.
If Raven Tongue is unable to raise capital for continuing for in our current form, we, as a community, have some big choices to make.
Some options are:
We could either fold and allow our editions to stand as a body of work on their own, pause this dream while we continue to advocate for women in publishing, or explore if, and how far, we are willing to compromise in effort to keep transmitting wisdom, inspiration, and practical guidance, while fostering an international community.

If Raven Tongue is unable to raise capital for continuing for in our current form, we, as a community, have some big choices to make.
Some options are:
- Reduce our quality from perfectly bound bookshelf worthy editions to fold & staple format.
Think something you can roll up. Less pages. More regular magazine and less bookish. - Reduce publication frequency from quarterly seasonal alignments to annual or bi-annual.
- Give up our print-only nature and move to online digital editions. Would you read us on a screen?
- Include outside advertisement. Standard industry practice is up to 80% of ads!
- Print our editions in cheaper countries overseas then ship to Canada for distribution.
Increasing environmental footprint & losing Canadian made production status.
