Our call for help...

When Raven Tongue launched in 2025, the response was truly miraculous. Funds needed for this 10 year dream to fledge the nest were raised on Kickstarter within just 4 days! Now, 3 seasons later, positive feedback continues to pour in - both from writers who've been profoundly affected by this opportunity, as well as from readers remarking on our high quality beautiful issues full of potent and varied articles, uncensored artistry, and print-only nature.

Our design, publishing structure, and release schedule were all geared to meet well researched 'under utilized' federal and provincial grant qualifications.  This funding was to help Raven Tongue begin hiring much needed staff, increase print-run numbers allowing access to international distribution houses, scaling to meet essential cost reductions, and increase shipping efficiency. The access portals to these grants went offline for months during the largest arts funding restructure in Canadian history. During Spring 2026, as access came back online, major qualifying terms have unexpectedly been changed beyond our reach.

Adding to this challenge, our incredible BC based print house has needed to raise their fees, while various unforeseen expenses such as sudden massive fuel surcharges also increased. Everything from packaging, to shipping rates, to tech and software as been affected.

What we have...

We have the majority of our content for a second year of publication already in hand, ready to go. Systems of production are in place, and workload distribution plans have been refined. 40+ contributors are passionate to continue. More shops are carrying us, and readership is still expanding.

What we need to survive...

Angel Investors, Sponsors, Grants, Donations.
While proof of concept has been demonstrated and desire for editions runs high, access to financial capital determines our fate.

We need to:
  • Secure funding for operations
  • Implement an evenly distributed workload among paid staff and volunteer committees

The Plan

With funds secured, sustainability in basic steps, looks like this:
  1. Hiring 3 women with seasoned design and marketing experience.
This distributes workload to manageable levels and requires skill & time not suited for volunteer positions.
  2. Increase number of copies printed to the level which cost per unit is reduced while meeting criteria for our print house to take over packaging and distribution. This increases profit, lowers consumer prices, reduces wait times, appropriately distributes workload, and decreases environmental footprint.
  3. Increase print runs to meet minimum unit requirements for entry into an International Distribution Hub.
Magazine sellers & bookstores choose which publications to carry through use of distribution hubs. Large print run numbers are needed not only to fulfil orders, but to sustain reasonable losses. The hub calculates how many copies to send to any given retailer. Unsold copies at the store level are returned to the hub and destroyed.
  4. Increased profit margins allow Raven Tongue Publishing to financially compensate contributors for their vital work, unlocking career advancing qualifications within the publishing industry and creative arts fields.

How you can help!

1. Share this page! Help us gain exposure and increase chances at securing critical funding.
2. Every dollar makes an impact. Independently published women's voices are at critical risk.

3. Request details of numbers crunched and stats collected. A review of business so far, aim of trajectory, and a bit more about the sole proprietor and the community of women Raven Tongue supports. As a collective, we meet various equity deserving and priority group classifications. Serious inquiries only.

If we don't find funding...

This venture is too important to too many people for us to walk away easily.
If Raven Tongue is unable to raise capital for continuing for in our current form, we, as a community, have some big choices to make.

Some options are:
  • Moving to a single annual edition
  • Focus on community connection through an annual 3 day International Council of Wise Women online summit
  • Contributors continue to meet behind the scenes to support women in business, creative healing arts, and social well-being
